Parkly X Burri School Yard Challenge

Parkly and BURRI Join Forces to Rethink Schoolyards

Parkly’s collaboration with Swiss urban furniture company BURRI has already created vibrant, social public spaces in 2025. As we kick off 2026, the partnership now turns its focus to one of today’s most important public-space challenges: creating schoolyards that are healthier, more inclusive, and more inviting!

The collaboration combines Parkly’s modular furniture and expertise in participatory design and placemaking with BURRI’s leadership in Swiss public space development. Their shared goal is to transform schoolyards into multifunctional environments that support children’s well-being, encourage physical activity, and serve local communities beyond school hours.

As part of the partnership, Parkly and BURRI have launched the Schoolyard Challenge — an open initiative inviting cities, schools, and designers to rethink how school grounds can better respond to climate change, social inclusion, and everyday play and learning needs.

“Schoolyards are among the most used public spaces in cities, yet their potential is often underutilized,” says Parkly’s co-founder Päivi Raivio. “Together with BURRI, we want to show how these spaces can become greener, more playful, and more meaningful parts of everyday urban life — and how they can also invite people to take a seat outside school hours.”
