Introduction:

The green and colorful route starting from Lambeth North Tube Station guides visitors along logical pathways while connecting to the Imperial War Museum. Adding greenery to the streetscape paves the way for a softer, greener urban environment and supports pollinators. This project aligns with We Are Waterloo’s placemaking strategies, which aim to enhance public space in ways that attract visitors, encourage them to stay, and strengthen place identity.

The challenge:

The challenge has been to create a visible route that goes beyond basic wayfinding, incorporating greenery and a sense of place along the pathways. Another key challenge was establishing a sense of arrival at the entrance of Lambeth North Tube Station. The solution needed to be modular and flexible to allow for adjustments and testing of wayfinding points as needed.

The solution:

The wayfinding route, comprising modular installations at seven locations, is designed to capture pedestrian attention and provide clear markers along the path. The greenery enhances the streetscape, while We Are Waterloo’s brand colors are prominently displayed. Together, the modules create a welcoming sense of arrival and guide visitors seamlessly along the route to the local museum.

“Parkly’s modular street furniture, including planters and wayfinding elements, has transformed Lambeth North in Waterloo, delivering an innovative blend of aesthetics and functionality. The intuitive wayfinding signage enhances navigation which is tailored to the urban area, and creates a more pedestrian-friendly environment for both residents and visitors.“
